Baba Salgar Mulberry Plantation / Mulberry Silkworm Rearing

Our farmer from Parli, Baba Salgar, is shown here preparing his Mulberry plantation for his silkworms. Having previously planted soya, cotton, bajra, and jowar , Baba Salgar has now turned his 1-acre farm into a mulberry plantation, where he plants approximately 5,500 mulberry trees, and earns around 50,000 rupees per month! He uses only organic fertilizers and no pesticides.

Initially, nobody in Malnatpur or any of the nearby villages took up sericulture as a source of income, but after Baba Salgar took this leap of faith, over 80 farmers have come forward and adopted this farming practice.
